Levee Run Farm Riding Camps Welcome!Have you always wanted your own horse? Try adopting one of ours for a few weeks instead! Campers ages 8-14 are invited to attend a very special riding camp for one to four weeks. You will adopt a horse for your camp and will be responsible for his care, for cooling him off with a bath, for giving him a vacation on a trail ride, and for showing him off in the ring. Daily riding lessons, trail rides, and unmounted lessons can help you earn awards for mastering horsemanship skills. Day camp will last from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Before and aftercare can be provided. A typical day will include two riding sessions, lunch break and games, and two short ground lessons, grooming, and tacking up for the mounted lessons. Special activities include: cart and carriage rides on the farm, costume parades, arts and crafts projects, cooking horse snacks, games on horseback, and scavenger hunts. Campers will learn to care for their horses and tack. In 2002, we will have an optional overnight each week of camp. Parents are welcome the last day to see campers show off their new knowledge! Suggested Equipment: * Paddock boots are adequate for the growing child. Do not buy rubber hunt seat boots. It is impossible to bend at the ankle and to get one's heels down - a critical element for safe riding.*riding pants. It is important to wear close-fitting stretchy pants. Jeans chafe at the knees. Leggings are great. Breeches may be purchased second-hand or at a reasonable price at local tack stores. *close fitting knit shirt or sweater. It is important that the instructor see the profile of our upper body. Baggy shirts, coats or sweaters short-change you on the full benefit of your lesson. *riding helmet. We require all children to wear ASTM-approved equestrian helmets. *gloves. Any gloves suitable for driving a car tend also to be good for riding. You need not buy expensive riding gloves. Isotoner-type gloves, inexpensive knit gloves, or thin pliable goatskin/deerskin gardening gloves will suffice. Now put on all your new stuff and come learn to ride! We offer introductory lessons for adults and youngsters alike. For more information, contact us at 662-453-9482, kenleann@tecinfo.com or 662-455-2054. |
