Riding Lessons are scheduled on a daily basis when camps are not in session. We furnish tack, lesson horses, helmets and paddock boots - if you need them. Contact Leann at 662-392-4189 or by e-mail. Have you always wanted your own horse? Try adopting one of ours for a few weeks instead! Campers ages 8-14 are invited to attend a very special riding camp for one to four weeks. You will adopt a horse for your camp and will be responsible for his care, for cooling him off with a bath, for giving him a vacation on a trail ride, and for showing him off in the ring. Daily riding lessons, trail rides, and unmounted lessons can help you earn Certified Horsemanship Association recognition for mastering horsemanship skills. Day camp will last from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.or come for half day from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Before and aftercare can be provided. A typical day will include riding sessions, lunch break and games, and two short ground lessons, grooming, and tacking up for the mounted lessons. Special activities include: rides on the farm, costume parades, arts and crafts projects, cooking horse snacks, games on horseback, and scavenger hunts. Campers will learn to care for their horses and tack. Parents are welcome the last day to see campers show off their new knowledge! Children will make memories that will last a lifetime. They will meet the horses - Flashlight, Star, Bomar, Evasia, Comet, and others - make new friends, learn horsemanship and responsibility, and maybe see a fox, deer, or bunny on a trail! Camp attendance is by reservation only. We cannot hold a space in camp without a reservation form and deposit. Dates are tentative - e-mail us for updates! In addition to horsemanship, we now offer Archery as a skill. As always we will have arts and crafts along with unmounted horsemanship lessons. FLASH - Leann Hines has just completed an Instructors' Clinic and certification of the Certified Horsemanship Association. Leann now holds the title of Master Instructor and is certified to instruct through Level 4 in the English and Western disciplines. Suggested Equipment for riding lessons or camps: * Paddock boots are adequate for the growing child. Do not buy rubber hunt seat boots. It is impossible to bend at the ankle and to get one's heels down - a critical element for safe riding. Many types of boots are suitable-please check with us before camp. *Riding pants. It is important to wear close-fitting stretchy pants. Jeans chafe at the knees. Leggings are great. Breeches may be purchased second-hand or at a reasonable price at local tack stores. *Close fitting knit shirt or sweater. It is important that the instructor see the profile of our upper body. Baggy shirts, coats or sweaters short-change you on the full benefit of your lesson. No halter tops, please. *Riding helmet. We require all riders to wear ASTM-SEI approved equestrian helmets. Helmets are provided or bring your own. *Gloves. Any gloves suitable for driving a car tend also to be good for riding. You need not buy expensive riding gloves. Isotoner-type gloves, inexpensive knit gloves, or thin pliable goatskin/deerskin gardening gloves will suffice. Now put on all your new stuff and come learn to ride! We offer introductory lessons for adults and youngsters alike. Levee Run Farm Riding Camps Our day camps will offer campers the opportunity to learn basics of handling a horse safely from the ground, caring the horse before and afer the ride, and riding in a group both in the ring and on the trail. We integrate demonstrations and lectures, professional videos, and hands-on learning experiences. We stress safety - properly fitting ASTM-SEI approved helmets and sturdy boots that reach above the ankles with heels are required. We recommend leggings, tights or other close fitting stretch pants.Fulll day campers will have instruction in archery and air pistol shooting. Certificates will be awarded on completion of requirements in these skills.
We are a member program of Certified Horsemanship Association and offer achievement certificates on completion of requirements. Master Instructors are certified in English/Western Levels 1 through 4.
